canadian capitals race
Play this game for the Girl Guides of Canada's Cross-Canada
Challenge!
Players:
 |
A group of 7 or more (odd numbers are best) |
Equipment:
 |
26 file cards, each marked with the name of a
province, territory, or capital city |
 |
Chairs, pieces of paper, or other place markers |
How to Play:
 |
Set up chairs or place markers in a circle where you
want to play. Make the circle as large as possible. Use
one less chair than the number of players. |
 |
Give each player a card with the name of a province,
territory, or capital city. Hand the cards out in pairs - if
someone has Nunavut, make sure someone else has Iqaluit, etc.
Use one less card than the number of players. |
 |
To start the game, the player without a card stands
in the middle of the circle. All the other players stand or
sit at their places in the circle. |
 |
The player in the centre calls out the name of a
province, territory, or capital city. The player with that
card, and its corresponding province, territory, or capital city
must run to switch places in the circle. The player in the
centre tries to get to one of these places first. |
 |
If the centre player is successful in getting to one
of the empty spaces, they take the card of the player who is left
without a space. That person becomes the new centre player. |
 |
The centre player can also call out
"Canada" - if this happens, everyone must switch places. |
