Materials:
Borax powder (found in grocery store - usually with
laundry products) |
Pipe cleaners |
Large paper cup |
Spoon |
Pencil |
Boiling water |
String (optional) |
Food colouring (optional) |
How To:
Fill a paper cup 3/4 full with boiling water |
Stir in Borax powder a spoonful at a time until no
more will dissolve |
Add a few drops of food colouring if you want
coloured icicles. |
Place a pipe cleaner or piece of string in the cup
in such a way that it is not touching the sides (a pencil placed
across the top of the cup can help with this) |
Wait overnight... |
In the morning, the Borax will have formed crystals
on the pipe cleaner. |
Hang your indoor icicles on your Christmas tree or
in a window. |
Optional:
Try bending the pipe cleaners into different shapes
such as trees, stars, or snowflakes before putting them in the borax
solution. |
